The House

The original farmhouse, and later the adjoining tobacco barn, were built with the stones recovered from the crumbling ruins of the Abbey at the turn of the 20th century.
As was the tradition at the time, the peasants lived on the first floor whilst the cattle and oxen were stabled below on the ground floor, as were the storage rooms for grain, cattle food and the wine cellar.





 
 



In 1969 what, today, is a comfortably furnished living room (8 x 9m), with French windows overlooking the Tiber valley, was the home of nine magnificent oxen standing in a six inch deep sea of manure.

The ground floor has now been transformed into a spacious entrance hall, study, living room and bar leading on to the terrace, a comfortable dining room and modern kitchen.
