Cuisine

Umbria has one of the best traditional cuisines in the whole of Italy and is an important region for truffles and the production of the finest olive oil. The Abbadia has 25 acres of private woods where “truffle hunts” can be arranged during the season. The region also produces fine wines, including the highly acclaimed Sagrantino that is produced in nearby Montefalco. Wine-tasting visits can be arranged to all the renowned growers in the region.

Guests are welcome to make full use of Abbadia Celestina’s spacious modern kitchen and terrace barbecue, or to have first-class meals prepared for them.
For those who choose, on-site catering is provided by the owner’s sister, Helen, a highly experienced cook who specialises in traditional Umbrian, Tuscan and Abruzzi dishes, but is just as comfortable preparing other international cuisine.

Vegetables and herbs are all sourced from local organic growers or from the Abbadia’s own organic vegetable garden, and many dishes are prepared with olive oil produced from the Abbadia’s trees. Helen’s husband, Fabrizio, is a sommelier, happy to help guests select wines from Abbadia Celestina’s well-stocked wine cellar.
